Concerned Health Information Management Practitioners of Nigeria moves towards advancing the Health Information Management (HIM) profession. - Health Records Officers Registration Board of Nigeria (HRORBN)

The team led by Mr. Abdul Bala Gali, on Tuesday, the 8th of October, met with the Health Records Officers Registration Board of Nigeria to discuss seven areas of specialization in HIM to include:

  • Health Informaticians: Design and implement health information systems to improve healthcare delivery.
  • Health Data Analysts: Analyze health data to improve healthcare outcomes and inform decision-making.
  • Health Information Technologists: Develop and maintain health information technology for efficient healthcare operations.
  • Monitoring and Evaluation Specialists: Assess healthcare programs’ effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.
  • Healthcare Cybersecurity Specialists: Protect sensitive healthcare data from cyber threats and maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Medical Coding Specialists: Assign accurate codes for healthcare services and procedures to ensure proper billing and reimbursement.
  • Medical Data Scientists: Research and analyze health data to improve patient care and healthcare outcomes.

These specializations align with global standards and will benefit HIM professionals, healthcare organizations, and patients alike.
In his welcome address,the Registrar/CEO, Alhaji Babagana Mustapha, applauded the proposal, emphasizing the importance of professional diversification and job opportunities.

Babagana stated that this is the first of its kind for a group of like minds to come up with such a brilliant idea for the betterment and progress of the profession.

He assured the team that he will critically evaluate the proposal for possible implementation.

The Registrar reiterated that he operates an open door policy and will continue to welcome ideas from both staff and professionals for growth and development.

This move by the Concerned Health Information Management Practitioners of Nigeria is a significant step towards enhancing the profession and improving healthcare delivery in the country.
